April 6, 2020With Spring upon us, many homeowners will be working on home improvement projects as well as other “to do’s” around the house this season. But, in addition to that landscaping or remodeling project you have planned, now is also a great time to check up on the condition of your roof.
Here are 5 tips to help get your roof ready for Spring.
1 – Examine Your Roof
Start by taking a good look at your roof. Walk around your home and look for any signs of wear and tear, moisture or even mildew. You will also want to examine your shingles. Do any areas of your roof seem worn or like they are missing granules? Are tree branches hovering the roof?
Certain signs may indicate possible roof damage or vulnerably. So be sure to take note of what you see because these notes can be shared with a roofing contractor who can help further evaluate what you notice.
2 – Take a Look in Your Attic
After you’ve looked at your roof from the outside of your home, go ahead and take a look in your attic if it is easily accessible. What you’re looking for here are any signs of light entering from the outside. If you see light beaming in from the outside, this means that you could have a hole in your roof, which can lead to leaks as it begins to rain more often in Spring.
If water can enter your home by way of an entry in your roof, other parts of your home become much more susceptible to other forms of damage as well. If you don’t see any light beaming in, you might be in good shape. But if you do, you’ll want to call a roofing professional right away to fix your roof this Spring.
3 – Clear Your Roof and Gutters of Leaves
As you’re doing improvements and cleaning around the house this Spring, now is also a great time to clean out your gutters. During the Fall and Winter months, gutters can often acquire leaves and other buildup. When this happens, gutters no longer work effectively.
Here are steps to properly clean out your gutters this Spring.
4 – Trim Overarching Tree Branches
Many homeowners also trim tree branches in the springtime. As part of proper roof maintenance, you will want to trim any tree branches that neighbor your roof. Over time, overgrown tree branches can cause faster wear and tear to roof shingles. So it’s best to keep your roof free of any tree limbs as these tend to do more harm than good for your roof.
5 – Schedule a Complimentary Roof Assessment
Lastly, use the Spring months to schedule a roof assessment. Normally roofing companies tend to get very busy in the Summer months, so Spring is a great time to make an appointment and check this off your list before roofing companies have less availability.
At Norwest Roofing, we offer complimentary assessments and estimates for your roof. In the event we find areas that need repair, we will let you know exactly what is required to get your roof back in great shape again. There is no obligation and you can have peace of mind knowing the exact condition of your roof.
